According to a new study, green tea was found to be harmful when consumed by cancer patients who use a drug called Velcade. The drug is used to treat a type of incurable blood cancer – multiple myeloma. A study published by the Blood journal showed that green tea components by binding with the drug prevent it from fighting the cancer cells. This study was primarily conducted on mice, to show how green tea could boost the effectiveness of the drug.
The studies surrounding green tea and its affect on cancer remains controversial, this study however indicates that combining green tea with certain medication can be dangerous and that we can never be 100% sure that herbs are safe to use.
