Tea Infuser – An Artistic Expression

23 11 2009

This abstract infuser is the work of silversmith Terri Gelenian-Wood. The piece comes from 1999 and is made of sterling silver. To me, this is a very Picassoesque take on tableware and the infuser is only one part of the unique collection. At the same time the design feels organic with its leaf-like shapes and smooth, curvy lines.

I like this a lot because I’m partial to sterling silver for teaware. This is because my favorite tea is green Puerh, and silver brings out its flavor well. And the design of this piece is another plus. Very good-looking.

Thanks for the commentary on the tea infuser. My wife, Terri, would have been flattered by the comparison with Picasso.

Although not related to tea, Terri, made other pieces of flatware that are housed in several museums around the globe. A fish-slice is held in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
